Saskatchewan, Canada

Calvary began its mission to the Cree First Nations of Central Saskatchewan as a partnership with North American Mission Board Missionary, Jason Johnson in 2010.  Jason, his wife Karla, and daughters Tori, Tess, and Annie moved from Texas to begin their ministry in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan.  His ministry there was very slow in the beginning.  The Cree are very distrustful of outsiders and, more specifically, the church.  Their history with the Catholic Church and the way they have been treated gave us much to overcome.

The Ministry

Jason began his ministry with children.  We partnered with him to put on basketball and soccer camps and Adventure Kids Clubs in order to build relationships with the children and the parents that would pave the way to the spread of the Gospel.  Slowly, through the Johnson family’s obedience, and hard work, the Lord has built a church!  The Fellowship of Duck Lake is a growing group of born-again believers who meet weekly to study the Word of God.  Once an adult First Nations comes to Christ, we usually see their family members and friends follow over time.

As he continued to do what God sent him to do, the surrounding reserves began to welcome him and his ministry. It has grown to the point where Jason is doing as much ministry as he can do and more Tribal Councils are asking for ministry on their reserves as well. Children who have completed 7th grade are encouraged to go on this trip with their parents. Please pray about joining Calvary Missions in our ministry way up North!
